Feb. 1, 2010 - Washington, DC - In 2009, QED launched a staff-driven corporate philanthropy initiative to strengthen and diversify its relationship with organizations from the Washington metro area and around the globe. The committee has chosen two main strategies, mini-grants to organizations and volunteer work.
QED staff members have volunteered time to a number of causes and organizations over the years. To build on this spirit, the QED Social Responsibility Committee launched a quarterly volunteering effort. In September, the committee kicked off with the cleanup of an urban parkway and in December staff came together for hands-on activities with children from the poorest wards of Washington, DC.
The Committee is currently planning future volunteer activities.
In addition to service activities, QED staff had the opportunity to apply for mini-grants and matching funds to support their chosen causes. Staff selected organizations that they knew and trusted and groups whose scopes complement QED’s corporate focus. Helping children was an additional priority for QED staff.
