USAID | Turkmenistan | Start Date: 2010

Turkmenistan, part of the Soviet Union until 1991, is nestled among Afghanistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and the Caspian Sea. Turkmenistan operates under a single-party political system and is currently led by its second president since achieving independence.

USAID is committed to equitable and sustainable economic growth throughout Asia. USAID activities include the five-year USAID Central Asian Republics Microeconomic Foundations for Growth IQC (CAR Micro), which supports microeconomic reform, business improvement, and trade facilitation.

The municipalities of Afghanistan are actively working to strengthen their services and meet the needs of their citizens, but are often hampered by a lack insufficient resources and training.


USAID's RAMP UP program aims to create effective, responsive, and accountable governance in targeted municipalities.  RAMP UP supports the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG), mayors, and municipal officials to increase institutional capacity to implement policy, provide resources that allow municipalities to deliver services, and increase and manage revenue.

USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) provides fast, flexible, short-term assistance to countries in political transition or emerging from civil conflict. Through the indefinite quantity contract Program Development Quickly II (PDQ II), QED provides OTI with monitoring and evaluation services, short- term technical assistance, knowledge management resources, personnel development opportunities, and logistical support.
