Nicholas spent 6 years working at the US Institute of Peace prior to working with the QED Group. He focused on security cooperation, institutional capacity building, and security sector reform. Nicholas regularly provided instruction, including course development and delivery, to advisors as part of the DOD Ministry of Defense Advisor (MoDA) pre-deployment training. He also researched and wrote extensively on national security, foreign assistance, organizational change, ministerial advising, and institutional capacity building. Nicholas oversaw the research and analysis for the 2-year project to develop the Sustainable Capacity Building Guidebook for the DOD Countering Terrorism Technical Support Office (CTTSO) and provided course instruction for the pilot trainings held to teach the guidebook to both US government and international practitioners. Nicholas holds a Master of Arts in US Foreign Policy from American University and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Linfield University.
