Robin H. “Sak” Sakoda supported a variety of security cooperation efforts, the focus of which has been in defense institution building (DIB). Much of this work supported the formation of western systems and processes, particularly capability-based defense planning and overall security policymaking. He has led teams as the Country Project Lead for the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s Defense Institution Building (DIB) program in Mongolia and Albania. He has supported a number of other countries on defense reform to include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Comoros, Nigeria, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Madagascar, Moldova, Montenegro, and Ukraine.
Mr. Sakoda’s experience includes service in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and foreign area officer, a regional specialist of East Asia. As a foreign area officer he served as Senior Country Director for Japan in the Office of Secretary of Defense. He is a graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina and U.S. Naval Postgraduate School with studies in National Security Affairs.
